When all you have is hammer, everything looks like a nail.

There's nothing precluding the use of XSD data typing validation or DTDs
(shudder) for that matter.  That's not what RDFS, DAML/OIL and now OWL are
primarily tasked with doing however.

Not to mention the strengths provided by data validation are often shockingly
less robust that what most folks /think/ is actually provided.
