In part for "ease of use", i.e. I wouldn't want to try to remember

In addition to that, it might be handy in the real-world case of
problems accessing the "true" source of the information, and for cases
where the "whole world" isn't present in one place, or when one wants
to make a statement about a person/thing without a self-description.

BTW, I'd add an rdfs:seeAlso to the list of preferred minimal
properties, that is, a pointer to the self-description, if existing.
