It's a really cool idea, and in general fits with the spirit of not having 
folks re-enter data they've already added.  I don't know enough about 
Jabber to use it myself yet, nor about how widely Jabber is being used, for
that matter. I often wonder whether the time is ripe to think about 
migrating the RDF Interest Group and FOAF channels to something a bit more 
21st century, instead of IRC. But nobody is pushing for it yet, and I don't 
know of any Jabber-based online fora like #rdfig and #foaf. 

It might be interesting to use chatlogs to show who has interacted with who.
Could be going a bit far with that one though, people could find it 
intrusive. Would be a cheap data source though...
