Even though they are different identifiers, mail to both of these
addresses would reach the same recipient.
In terms of usability, if I knew you email address and wanted to look
up your foaf and you had used capitals, but I used IanD then from the
sha1 I wouldn't be able to find you. I think this is quite a major
issue.
Personally, I think the spec should state that the sha1 hash is made up
of the mailto: plus the lower case email address, this way we can be
sure of a certain match and it would make the whole network more
reliable when it comes to looking people up.
