The results are in from Jeremy after I cheekily asked him to run the
VicSoft.Rdf parser through his benchmark test harness. Although the
figures are pretty grim, here they are. Avert your eyes if you are
squeamish.
15 * 5421 triples (Thomas Power's FOAF [1])
* RAP: 60 seconds (this number determined from a single
run of 4 seconds on a P4 2.4)
* Scio.RDF: 6 seconds
* VicSoft: 1848 seconds
Dr Ont of course was horrified by the news but has assured me that he
has given his developer Derek a good kicking. Derek is re-coding
furiously as we speak (with one hand as his other arm is broken in three
places). Early investigations indicate a fairly simple fix with time
down to about 20 seconds for a 15 x Thomas Power. An updated version
will be posted soon which just might prevent Derek's return to the
streets of Denbigh [2].
[1] Thomas Power has the biggest FOAF in the world and is still a nice
guy
