Very neat.
But I think one can do a lot simpler.
Instead of the +button, have a foaf icon, with one of the heads
replaced with a key and login next to it.

That links to an foaf+ssl endpoint, that if you do not have a
certificate, will return a page that will allow you to login using
openid, username password, or link you to a service to create your foaf
+ssl key.
