This morning I received an email from

AKSW Semantic Pingback Server <pingback at informatik.uni-leipzig.de>

telling me that I have been pinged about

I checked out this URL using

$ rapper http://sebastian.tramp.name -o turtle

The resource I was pinged about turns out to be a foaf:Person,
and indeed quite a friendly fellow at that, so I added him to
my foaf file .

I have no idea who pinged me. But I thank the chap who did
for being so kind and notifying me.

If the ping service were foaf+ssl enabled (so behind an https
service) it could ask the WebId of the agent making the ping request,
and so also allow non anonymous pings, and so also allow for the
message to be non anonymous too.

Anyway, this is a very interesting service. I really look forward
to being able to deploy one that would help me:
  1. get background information on the pinged object
  2. ( on who pinged me too when we get to that)
  3. easily accept the ping, and give me a choice of what to do about it
      - in case the object is a foaf:Person, one could add it to one's
foaf:PersonalProfile, put the person in some group, ...
      - in case of a blog post one could smob, tweet, or something
      - in case of an image,....

I feel like this is a small step for mankind but a great step for foaf somehow. :-)

Henry, in Oxford, (I wonder if you can tell ;-)
